Consultation Plan
A consultation plan is not as detailed as a landscape design plan. It is aimed at people who want to DIY as much as possible but need some guidance by talking to a professional garden designer and getting a more affordable design plan. Ideally you can provide a copy of your site and house plans before the meeting, and have a mostly flat section. If you do not have a copy of your site plans, I will use google maps and photos to draw up a quick base plan, and take some quick measurements if we are meeting on-site.
Cost: $500 to $800 depending on the size of the project.
Some common examples the Consultation Plan is suitable for include:
-
Creative ideas to revamp your compact courtyard for a more appealing and functional space.
-
Planning for a new or refreshed patio, deck or spa area
-
Brainstorming ideas to improve the visual appeal of your entrance area.
-
Designing a pocket garden for a corner space in your property.
-
Developing a design for a narrow side yard to make the most of available space.
-
Planting ideas for the existing gardens in your front yard to add street appeal
Included in the consultation plan fee:
-
On-site predesign consultation to bounce ideas, explore options and understand exactly what you need
my help for.* -
A sketch plan showing the proposed layout and material suggestions to answer your brief, and annotations to guide you to start your garden transformation.
-
Trees and hedges’ full botanical names are labelled on the plan, and a list of suggestions for all other plants (which suit the site and the style of garden you are after), with planting notes ("how to").
-
Moodboard images to convey the design ideas.
-
1 plan revision to finalise changes

The consultation plan is a helpful little design service that will give you the confidence and insights you need to start the work on that small area of your garden that needs an makeover. Perfect for courtyard gardens, townhouse gardens, small gardens, backyard or front yard designs ideas without built components for council submission.
Please note it is not suitable if you have a medium to large section that requires a complete landscaping overhaul or if you need precise measurements and accurate contractor quotes. It's also not recommended for projects involving swimming pool installations or if you need a landscape plan for subdivision approval.
*Depending on the project, I may be able to provide this service online – contact me to find out if this is an option for you.
Consultation plans examples:
This side garden was just a soggy lawn. The clients wanted a solution for drainage, but also to create privacy for the bedrooms on that side of the house which overlooked the neighbour's house.
The clients had an existing garden bed in a small courtyard. They wanted a Japanese-inspired garden with some of the Bonsai trees they already had, a small stream and a water feature. They needed help to create the feel of a Japanese garden and some advice on planting.
The clients wanted advice on how to bring life to their new swimming pool area with planting, which can be difficult as there are rules around what can be planted outside a pool fence. We decided to break up the concrete with some ornamental grasses and create a private, sheltered, cozy space around the outdoor fireplace. A tall planted with a Cycad provides a focal point on the other side of the pool.
